There isnt a dearth of luxury accommodation in Paris, where high-end hotels range in atmosphere from old-school opulence to fashionable chic. What sets the Park Hyatt apart is the combination of an understated modernity with an elegant brand of cool.
Opened in 2002 and adjacent to Place Vendôme (easily within walking distance to Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries Gardens and the Louvre), the 168 Ed Tuttle-designed rooms feel pristine and un-stuffy, with soaring ceilings, dark mahogany and gold-leaf accents and immaculate marble bathrooms. Soundproof walls ensure an incredible nights sleep. Renovations to the 36 suites a few of which occupy entire floors were completed in May.
The spa also received an upgrade and now includes a whirlpool, sauna, Turkish bath and fitness room with state-of-the-art equipment and offers a la carte beauty and health treatments. Jean-François Rouquette, chef at the hotels PurGrill, perfected his techniques in the kitchens of some of the city's best hotels, including Le Crillon. He emphasizes seasonal produce in his colorful, creative dishes such as duck foie gras with lemon confit and green tea, or Aveyron milk lamb cooked three ways (confit, grilled and roasted) to coax out the rich flavor.
Perhaps the defining characteristic of the Park Hyatt is the propertys intoxicating signature scent from Paris perfumer Blaise Mautin. Inspired by the design and atmosphere of the hotel, Mautins fragrance is infused in candles and bath products; the subtle aromatic blend of powdery patchouli, leather and Florida oranges can be faintly detected even from the lobby entrance.
Service is effortlessly efficient and cordial without being fawning. Like everything else in the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, the staff seem to follow a mantra of refined subtlety.
