Kelly Wearstler, founder of the interior-design firm KWID, is throwing herself a birthday party this month at LAS ALAMANDAS, on the Costalegre. Owned by Sir James Goldsmith's daughter Isabel Goldsmith-Patiño, the resort has six casas on the Pacific Ocean.
The Location "I wanted the destination to be easily accessible for the guests, many of whom are coming from Los Angeles," says Wearstler, who also considered the Caribbean. "You can lose people if you plan something too far away."
Nice Touch A bottle of tequila with the invitation tied around its neck will be hand-delivered to all the attendees.
Great Gifts Wearstler plans on providing special welcome baskets. "I designed the towels, T-shirts, hats and flip-flops that guests will find in large straw bags in their suites," she explains.
Casual Comfort Wearstler loves the relaxed atmosphere in Mexico. "It's supposed to be a carefree weekend. I've planned tapas for our first night and a more formal, alfresco dinner for our second night."
Hands-Off "I recommend leaving as many details as possible to the resort staff. The trip should be about taking a respite."
