The new HÔTEL DE LA PAIX in Siem Reap, Cambodia, is as gorgeous as an Art Deco ocean liner, and it offers service and comfort that would put many Western hotels to shame. A short drive from the breathtaking sites of Angkor Wat and its surrounding temples, the hotel was designed by the American architect and landscaper Bill Bensley (who also created Rajvilas, in Jaipur, and the Oberoi, in Mauritius). Its 107 coolly modern rooms and suites are furnished with handcrafted lamps, intricate wall mountings, fine crisp linens and all the necessary high-tech amenities, including fully loaded iPods. Its clients are international and sophisticated, many stopping over for a few days as a part of the increasingly fashionable grand tour of Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. Australian chef Paul Hutt oversees the hotel's restaurant, which serves seasonal gourmet Khmer cuisine. After climbing the ancient stone stairs at the temples, you might want to forgo a yoga class at the gym and instead relax at the pool or the spa. Better yet, stay in one of the nine duplex spa suites; each has a rooftop plunge pool and a garden terrace, where you and your loved one can be pampered side by side on massage tables. From $300 per night. 011-855-639-66-000; 800-525-4800; hoteldelapaixangkor.com.
