Double-Mint Milan

For models, designers, even hotels, it's not easy to break through in trendsetting Milan. But two new properties have made an impression. The Town House Galleria (8 Via Silvio Pellico; 011-39-02-8905-8297; townhousegalleria.it) is perfectly placed within the city's prestigious "fashion triangle"; though its twenty-four suites start at around $1,000 a night, the hotel has been almost fully booked since it opened, a year ago, no doubt thanks to its anything-is-possible service (every room comes with a private butler).

The Chedi Milan (double rooms from $350; 24 Via Villapizzone; 011-39-02-363-1888; thechedimilan.com) began welcoming guests in the spring of 2007, before its glossy spa was complete and its service was up to par. Now, at last, the hotel is hitting its stride: the Asian-inspired look and sensual bar made the Chedi a design-cognoscenti darling during Milan's annual hot-ticket furniture fair.
