Santa Fe is one of those places that inspire romance. From its earthen houses to the dramatic backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the city glows with an unusual sunlight that has attracted artists for more than a century. To stay in the heart of all that beauty, on a quiet street a few blocks from the restaurants and museums downtown, check into the INN OF THE FIVE GRACES. A ramble of nine stone and adobe buildings punctuated by flower-filled courtyards, the inn was recently renovated by its new owner, the Garrett Group (the management company behind such luxury resorts as Lake Placid Lodge and the Point, in the Adirondacks). Its twenty-four suites feature traditional Southwestern architecture, with warm-brown stuccoed walls and wood-beam ceilings, as well as Middle Eastern carpets and hand-carved wooden screens. Most guest rooms have wood-burning fireplaces, perfect for cozying up to on a chilly night, and bathroom soaking tubs with hand-painted tiles. A few suites are on the small side, so be sure to request a deluxe. Then have the concierge arrange a private tour of some of the town's 250 galleries, a dinner of elk tenderloin at Geronimo restaurant, on Canyon Road, and a couple's massage and private outdoor hot tub at the renowned Ten Thousand Waves spa, in the nearby foothills. Most of all, don't miss the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, celebrating its tenth anniversary. Deluxe suites from $400. 150 E. DeVargas Street; 505-992-0957; fivegraces.com.
