The World's Most Romantic Rooms

Where should you go when all you want to do is be alone with that special someone?

By Melissa Biggs Bradley

Frédéric Fekkai, hair stylist: "The Hotel Gritti Palace, in Venice, has the most romantic suites. I've stayed in several, and all were beautiful, comfortable and luxurious. The service is impeccable. Imagine a room with panoramic views of the Grand Canal and a true palazzo feel — it's difficult to find a more enchanting setting." $1,025–$5,295 per night; 800-325-3535; gritti.hotelinvenice.com.

Gilles Mendel, fashion designer: "My most romantic place is one of the deluxe suites on the top floor of the Ritz in Paris. Number 611 includes a large room with marble columns, a sofa and a sitting area. There are small balconies, and you can see the Eiffel Tower. There's even a sauna in the marble bathroom. How wonderful to have breakfast (the soft scrambled eggs are perfect!) while facing the windows and that view. As long as you are with the right partner, this room cannot be beat." $787–$10,965 per night; 011-33-1-43-16-30-30; ritzparis.com.

Valesca Guerrand-Hermès, philanthropist: "I fell in love with my husband during a surprise trip he gave me to the K Club, on the small Caribbean island of Barbuda. We flew to Antigua, where we were picked up by a private plane that whisked us to the club, where we were presented with a bottle of Champagne in our room upon arrival. The club's bungalows are scattered along the beach, and the setup is such that you're blissfully unaware that you even have neighbors. The staff is fabulous and the food fantastic, but mostly I love this place for its white beaches, crystal-blue water and absolute privacy." $950–$3,300 per night, seven-night stay minimum; $400 for private-plane transfer. 268-460-0301; kclubbarbuda.com.

"For a more spontaneous weekend retreat, I like the Hôtel Quintessence, in Mont Tremblant, Canada. The most romantic "room" is the freestanding Clagett's Cabin, an absolutely charming hideaway by the lake. To get there from the hotel, you cross a small bridge and pass a sign that says Private. The cabin itself is tiny but luxuriously appointed. The best part is the bathtub positioned next to the fireplace. There's also a butler on call. This place is great because it's so easily accessible. From Montreal (an hour-long flight from New York), it's just ninety minutes by car, which makes the hotel perfect for a quick romantic getaway." $365–$1,360 per night; 866-425-3400; hotelquintessence.com.

Eugenia Silva, model: "Several special places come to mind. First, I love any suite at the Yunak Evleri cave hotel, in Ürgüp, which is in Turkey's Cappadocia region [$120–$180 per night; 011-90-384-341-6920; yunakevleri.com.] Rooms at the Perivolas Traditional Houses, on Santorini, in Greece, are also carved into rock, and the infinity-edged pool has amazing views. I witnessed the most romantic sunset I've ever seen while staying here [$475–$1,810 per night; 011-30-22860-71308; perivolas.gr]. In Bali, the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay has a wonderful suite with a private plunge pool and great flower arrangements. The hotel also has the best Indonesian food [$575–$2,600 per night; 800-332-3442; fourseasons.com.] When in Paris, one of the most romantic cities in the world, you must stay at the Hôtel Costes. The interior design, by Jacques Garcia, is sexy; the food is great; and the pool is a dream." $645–$3,615 per night; 011-33-1-42-44-50-50.
