In Marrakech, Colombian-born designer Viviana Gonzalez has turned the former Café Maure, an erstwhile respite of poets and philosophers, into one of the souk's chicest shopping destinations. Savvy members of the riad set have found their way to Atelier Moro's door—marked only by a card with the number 114—and used the metal knocker to gain admittance to the second-floor premises, with red tadelakt walls and soft spotlighting.

Gonzalez employs Moroccan craftspeople to make such exquisite pieces as embroidered cotton caftans ($212), suede jackets inspired by traditional Chinese coats (from $325) and crocodile handbags ($512). Also on display are inlaid resin picture frames, coffee spoons in red leather pouches, handblown perfume flacons and straw bracelets, all of which make wonderful gifts. 114 Place de Mouassine; 011-212-24-39-16-78.
