When FORTY FIVE TEN opened in Dallas, in 2000, husbands quickly learned (from their credit-card bills, most likely) that this überluxurious emporium of clothing, jewelry and home accessories would become their ever-reliable gift-giving destination. Today, no matter the splurge from Alexander McQueen's fox sweater coat ($14,695) to the VBH violet alligator clutch ($4,250) to a Bylu tourmaline bauble it's still a do-no-wrong purchase if it's from Forty Five Ten.
Co-owners Brian Bolke and Shelly Musselman stock the shelves of the store (which derives its name from its address on McKinney Avenue) with their women-who-have-everything customers in mind. They are masters at mixing well-known lines, like Mrs. John L. Strong cards and stationery, and designs by Moschino and Alberta Ferretti, with unusual local creations, like artisanal tabletop items from Jan Barboglio and 600-thread-count organic bed linens from Anna Sova.
But though the specialty department store's array is chicly sophisticated, Forty Five Ten's salespeople still radiate that undeniable Texan warmth.
