The Portuguese island of Madeira has always drawn sun-seeking society mavens of a certain age, but in the past five years it has begun to attract a younger set. Their property of choice is Choupana Hills Resort & Spa, a sixty-two-room boutique hotel with an Asian twist perched in the hills above the capital, Funchal. Guests breathe in eucalyptus-scented breezes while admiring the view of the ocean. The reception area opens onto a mosaic-tiled pool; next door is the bar and restaurant, which serves Asian-fusion dishes. Antiques from Portugal's former colonies grace the wood interiors. Days are filled with spa treatments and walks along the island's famous canals. Rooms from $360. 011-351-291-20-60-20; choupanahills.com.
