Bikini Boot Camp

At Amansala, you go to the beach to get buff.

Getting in shape at bikini boot camp.
By Cath Urquhart

It may be called Bikini Boot Camp, but I spent most of my time barefoot during the weeklong fitness program at Amansala, a bohemian-chic resort near the Mayan ruins of Tulum. Two women from New York opened the getaway in 2002 after the September 11th attacks made them question the hectic way they lived. The pair discovered a pristine beach and built thirteen cabanas. The simple haven attracts many stylish women who come for the boot camp, which begins each day with a barefoot power walk on the seashore, followed by such activities as yoga, aerobics, kayaking and cycling. Massages are offered in huts, and communal meals include fresh fish and salads. Don't expect luxury, but do expect to return home feeling fit and relaxed. $1,842 for a six-night package, which includes accommodations, meals, Mayan clay treatments and classes. 011-52-98-4100-0717; amansala.com.
