Japanese cosmetics king Shu Uemura has been integrating deep-sea water into his products for years. Now he's encouraging spagoers to soak in it.

His Utoco Deep Sea Therapy Center & Hotel opened in 2006 on a peninsula of Japan's Shikoku Island, amid what Uemura considers some of the world's most mineral-rich water; a pipeline supplies it from 2,000 feet down for treatments and massage showers.

After a rest in one of seventeen sleek guest rooms, go for a little internal healing: desalinized water is used in the restaurant's dishes, such as seared tofu with green tea.

Double rooms from $290. 011-81-8-8722-1811; www.utocods.co.jp/english.html.
